The job of a work at home mom is never finished. You're working two full-time jobs with no breaks between assignments and no time off for good behavior. At worst, it's a frenetic juggling act. At best, it can help you earn money while fulfilling the most important job you'll ever have—being a mom.
In today's world, many unorthodox job prospects exist that were unheard of just 20 years ago, and were impractical until just recently. As businesses continue to increase their operations online, opportunities to work from home are booming, especially if you have the necessary qualifications.
There’s an ever-expanding number and variety of work at home administrative jobs available today. In many cases these types of positions are preferred by employers who benefit greatly by saving money on overhead. Here are a few examples of work you can do from home:
Home-based medical billers and transcriptionists bring in between $7 and $17 per hour.
The job of a virtual administrative assistant sounds more futuristic than it actually is. Virtual admins perform all the same functions inherent in administrative and clerical jobs, except sometimes they’re carried out in slippers instead of heels. Average pay runs in the $10 to $25 hourly range.
Once you’ve settled into your new career working from home, there are a few guidelines you should always adhere to:
Set office hours. One of the drawbacks of working from home is also seen as one of its biggest advantages. Depending on your financial situation, you may be tempted to work around the clock, but it’s imperative for your mental health (and that of your family) to set strict office hours and adhere to them. Burning yourself out will only hurt you in the long run.
Don’t procrastinate. The flipside of not knowing when to take a break is not knowing when to start working. Being in a comfortable home environment makes it easy to put off work, especially if you’ve got a family to care for, therefore being disciplined is critical.
Never settle. Always keep your eyes open for new areas of opportunity. If you’ve been able to find gainful employment from home by pairing your skills with a well-matched employer, the odds are you’ll be able to continue to do so—and command a higher rate of pay for your experience.
