Description
Job Description Requires a minimum of 2 years in a clerical or receptionist in a health care setting. Admitting Specialists are assigned to many specialized clerical admitting functions, and are expected to perform these duties in one of multiple registration areas within the institution.
Some of these duties include: - * Admitting Specialists are responsible for maintaining the accuracy of patient information in four different computer systems: Obtains demographic and financial data from patient and accurately inputs data into the Star System. Obtains signatures on all required registration forms and releases.
Responsible for utilizing the IDX scheduling system, verify demographic and financial information to ensure accuracy in the IDX system, which is utilized by the physicians and staff.
Responsible for ensuring the Cerner System maintains accurate information concerning patient's location.
Processes patient discharges and transfers accurately after obtaining this information from nursing units via Protouch.
* Interviews patients, preferably prior to admission or at admission, to determine their ability to pay and to expedite reimbursement for hospital services. Gathers data pertaining to third party coverage and ensures appropriate documents are completed to assist the hospital in obtaining reimbursement. Explains the nature of each individual's insurance coverage and financial responsibilities in such a way that the patient or family understands their obligations.
* Verifies patients' insurance information and obtains necessary authorizations and/or approvals during the registration process.
* Investigates and responds to patients' inquiries and complaints regarding insurance coverage, payment plans and other financial issues.
* Updates patient account records in the STAR system to ensure accurate and up-to date information is maintained. Changes payor financial class in accordance with departmental procedures, also documents all patient information into the account notes, which could be relevant for patient financial services during the billing process.
* Maintains continuous contact with the patients, their insurance carriers, clinical reimbursement, Utilization review and Social Work departments as necessary to ensure that all the necessary information has been obtained for reimbursement, and that pre-admission and pre-certification requirements are followed.
* Adheres to the department and medical center specific standards for data entry and patient selection when registering, admitting or scheduling a patient for services at the Medical Center.
* Audits paperwork and files on each admission to ensure accuracy and completion of information obtained and paperwork completed.
* Provides patients and visitors with information pertaining to hospital procedures, in-house directions, insurance requirements, appointment times and patient locations.
* Escorts patients within the hospital complex, as needed.
* Gathers and records data used for individual, team and feedback performance reporting.
Responsible for the integrity of recorded information.
* Greets patients, visitors, hospital personnel, etc., always demonstrating excellent customer service skills to promote a positive image for the Medical Center.
