Associate - Mezzanine Unit

The primary objective of Investments is to maximize MetLife’s long-term economic value by investing in assets that support the company’s liabilities and produce a consistent stream of operating earnings.
MetLife Investments’ High Return Unit High Return manages a $16 billion portfolio of high yield and emerging market bonds, syndicated bank loans, bridge loans and mezzanine debt, as well as a portfolio of alternative investments including hedge fund, corporate joint venture and leveraged lease assets. High Return also maintains an internal research team, the cornerstone of managing MetLife’s credit assets.
Mezzanine Finance Unit seeks an associate to primarily aid in the origination, due diligence, execution and ongoing portfolio monitoring/reporting of mezzanine investments. Deals will include direct mezzanine investments, co-investments and mezzanine fund investments. Also assist in origination and execution of middle market senior debt investments as needed.
Functional Responsibilities: • Participate in all phases of due diligence including management presentations and due diligence calls. • Perform industry/competitive research. • Develop financial models, including scenario analysis for transactions. • Prepare written investment committee memorandum and presentations. • Perform portfolio monitoring and reporting, including quarterly credit reviews and covenant compliance. • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements
• Minimum 3 years of credit experience. • Leverage finance transactional experience, mezzanine preferred. • Strong analytical, credit, accounting and financial statement analysis skills. • Ability to construct complicated financial models. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong presentation skills. • Ability to work well independently and as part of a small team. • MBA/CFA preferred.
