Job Description
The Cancer Registrar I is responsible for data collection from the medical record and updates to the Cancer Registry. This is intended as an interim position only, with the goal that employees work to complete the certification process to become a Certified Tumor Registrar within 18 months of their hire date to this position.
Cancer Registrar is a career path that requires education, training, and dedication.
1. Abstracts each reportable case including demographic information, medical history, diagnostic findings, cancer information, cancer therapy, cancer recurrence information, and follow-up.
2. Review generated lists to identify reportable cases.
3. Codes data into database.
4. Compiles documentation for monthly physician quality control review.
5. Performs responsibilities under the supervision of a Certified Tumor Registrar (Cancer Registrar II, or III).
Starting Pay: $15.35 Full time with benefits Monday - Friday Days
Minimum Requirements
- Completed or in progress of completing Associates Degree or two years of college level coursework with classes in physiology and anatomy. Degree and coursework must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
- Experience in a variety of computer programs including spreadsheets, word processing, and internet based programs
Physical Requirements
- Hearing/Listening, Speaking, Manual Dexterity
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
- Proficiency of medical terminology and ICD coding
- Previous medical office experience
- Experience using Tandem, AS400, and E-PATH
