Description
University of Maryland Medical Center Critical Care Transfer Coordinator (Full-Time) To care. Position Summary: Under direct supervision, communicate with physicians and staff at referring hospitals and the Medical System in coordinating critical care patient transfers. Perform technical assistant responsibilities and provide back up assistance for the transport team and the emergency medical services department.
Responsibilities: - Requests and/or provides information regarding the transport of ill or injured patients to and from the Medical System. Receives and transmits information related to the efficient processing of patients via radio, telephone, and modem.
- Maintains specialized logs and databases related to transports.
- Assesses bed availability and coordinates appropriate and efficient placement of patients guided by protocol and working with the admitting department and clinical units.
- Assures that all communication and support equipment is properly functioning. Performs minor maintenance on equipment and maintains work area in an orderly fashion.
- Assists team members in the set up and adjustment of transport equipment including stretchers and immobilization devices as needed.
- Assists in loading and unloading of critically ill or injured patients from helicopters and/or ambulances as well as transporting to patient care areas via stretcher or wheelchair as needed, in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Participates in Quality Assurance, both in meetings organized for that purpose, and also on a daily basis by checking charts for accuracy, timeliness, and any other issues which might arise during a transport or consult.
Qualifications: - Completion of high school level of course work with attainment of a high school diploma or a State High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience as a certified EMT in the state of Maryland is required. However, continued certification is not a requirement of the job.
- Continuous CPR certification is required (AHA or ARC) - Ability to operate transmission equipment including 2-way radio, and Windows-based telephone system. Ability to operate within a database environment for entry and retrieval of demographic information, performance data and statistics.
- Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment. Ability to handle confidential issues with integrity and discretion.
