Description
***This position is located in Columbia, MD.**The Office Supervisor ensures the efficient operation of the department and the performance of clerical and/or clinical support staff in the Department of Radiation Oncology. This role is also responsible for procedural operating decisions based on independent judgment and knowledge of applicable departmental policies and procedures.
Other responsibilities include:
- Demonstrates and promotes positive employee relations.
- Performs patient billing and/or maintains records of department expenditures. Collects financial documents and balances accounts. Projects office expense budgets and monitors special funds as requested.
- Interviews, hires, trains/orients, supervises work performance, assigns work and work schedules, counsels and disciplines subordinate clerical staff; Establishes clear and concise work procedures and expectations for support.
Qualifications
1. Completion of a high school level of course work with attainment of a high school diploma or a state High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) is required. Bachelor's degree in business or health care administration or equivalent preferred. Certification in medical office practices a plus.
2. A minimum five years of progressively responsible clerical experience in a health care environment with at least one year of supervisory experience. Must possess thorough medical/legal knowledge regarding medical records, billing referrals and front desk etiquette.
3. Demonstrated ability in office management including supervision, motivating and training employees.
4. Working knowledge of computer applications with experience utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to operate IDX system as necessary.
5. Requires excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, families, clerical and professional staff.
