Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the new patient experience at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. The Oncology Patient Coordinator works with various providers and services to ensure that new patients are assimilated into the system.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for receiving, responding to and directing new patient communications, including phone calls, emails, and other interactions. - Assesses new patient questions and ensures appropriate coordination of the new patient experience. - Educates new patients about available resources and what to expect during their first visit. - Coordinates referrals from physicians and self-referred patients. - Gathers needed medical information such as records, slides, and films to assist in the coordination of oncology new patient needs. - Ensures insurance coverage, resolves any issues with coverage and escalates complicated issues to appropriate Financial Counselor. - Directs the scheduling of patient appointments with providers and ancillary services. - Coordinates the Huntsman Cancer Hospital treatment planning conferences, logistics, and presentations; completes associated CME requirements. - May act as a liaison with other care groups such as social work, financial counseling and nutrition to facilitate the new patient intake process. - May assist in the coordination of community outreach activities.

- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. - Strong organizational and follow-through skills. - Highly motivated with attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and independently. - Technically strong and willing to learn new applications and software. - Must have an excellent demeanor and present themselves in an exceptional, mature and professional manner. - Demonstrates a passion for providing excellent customer service. - Ability to assimilate data from various sources. - Ability to display active listening and verbalize empathy. - Ability to quickly learn new procedures and process. - Able to prioritize and multi task in a fast paced environment. - Ability to develop relationships with patients, guest and coworkers. - Have knowledge of and practice HIPPA regulations to insure patient information is guarded and respected.
Qualifications: Required:
- Associates Degree in a Health Care field, Business, Communication, related field or equivalency required - Four years of experience.
Preferred:
- Bachelors Degree in a Health Care field. - Experience in Oncology, multidisciplinary clinics or working with high-acuity, complex patients.
