Program Assistant

Art Connects New York (ACNY) was founded in 2006 with the mission of using the transformative power of art to improve the lives of New Yorkers. ACNY does this via its two programs: its cornerstone, city-wide Art Placement Program and exhibitions of new work at Spattered Columns. The Art Placement Program brings together emerging NYC-based artists and curators to create compelling, permanent installations in a breadth of social service organizations that inspire reflective dialogue for the agencies' visitors, staff, clients, and public. ACNY's Spattered Columns serves as a presentation space for artists without commercial gallery representation. Housed in a renovated artist studio, Spattered Columns has been converted into a white wall exhibition space where emerging NYC-based curators and artists can engage in artistic dialogue with the community around them.

ACNY is seeking a bright, organized, and detail-oriented Program Assistant to work alongside the Director two days a week. The applicant must be a self-starter who is able to multi-task and has the ability to take initiative and problem solve. He/she must have computer skills (Word, Excel, Photoshop a must), experience working in a close team environment, and the ability to prioritize and take direction. Interest in marketing, development, and exhibitions a plus. Familiarity with the art world and/or social service agencies beneficial; art handling experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities include:
-Maintaining mailing lists; creating and updating press lists
-Creating and maintaining up-to-date files and contracts for all participating artists, agencies, and curators
-Creating and distributing weekly press releases
-Delivering and picking up artwork as needed
-Maintaining website
-Maintaining petty cash reports
-Coordinating installation of on-site and off-site exhibitions and public programs
-Assisting during opening receptions and public programs (answering door, greeting guests, bartending as needed)
-Generating and sending letters of inquiry to potential donors
-Scheduling external meetings with curators and agencies
-Providing general administrative support to the Director and assisting overall office needs including buying office supplies, maintaining office cleanliness, copying, answering telephones.
