Description
University of Maryland Medical Center Scheduling and Pre-Authorization Coordinator (Full-Time) Responsibilities: Under supervision of the practice manager, the incumbent is responsible for accurate registration and scheduling of patient clinic area.
- Schedules patient for physician evaluations, ancillary procedures and consults. Accepts referral from primary care physicians for specialty consults.
- Obtains, confirms, updates and enters all pertinent demographic and insurance information into the IDX and STAR scheduling systems.
- Verifies patients' insurance information and obtains necessary authorizations and/or approvals during the registration process.
- Identifies potential financial risk and refers patient to Financial Counseling and/or Social Work for assistance and guidance in identifying alternative financial arrangements.
- Arrives, discharges and charges all patient encounters in IDX and STAR scheduling and billing systems.
- Answers multi-line telephone system, triages to appropriate staff or directs patient to proper department and/or paging operator.
- Greets patients, visitors, hospital personnel, etc., always demonstrating excellent customer service skills to promote a positive image for the Medical Center.
Qualifications: - Completion of high school level of course work with attainment of a high school diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate.
- A minimum of three years work experience in an administrative or clerical position in a health care setting such as an acute care hospital, nursing home or Health Maintenance Organization performing relevant clerical activities.
- Knowledge of various insurance coverage such as Medicaid, HMOs.
- Knowledge of the operation of a personal computer and data entry for entry and retrieval of demographic and financial information.
- Proficient in PC applications and accurate data entry. Use of other medical registration system and/or STAR/IDX preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology in order to udnerstand diagnoses to schedule appointments. Understanding of ICD9 codes is preferred.
