Two Easy Ways to Reward Your Employees for Top Performance

If you want your employees to give great service to your customers, you must have a system in place to regularly reward it. It never ceases to amaze me how business owners and managers ignore the good customer service their people provide, and criticize them when they don’t provide it.

Dale Carnegie once said, “You can catch a lot more bees with honey than you can with vinegar”. My point is, you have to provide positive reinforcement to your staff on a regular basis if you want to help them form the habit of taking care of your customers properly.

Take a Poll
There are many easy and inexpensive ways to create the right environment for your business to reward your managers and employees. The first place to begin, is to take a poll. Ask your employees how they would they like to be recognized and rewarded for giving outstanding service, and from that list, begin a weekly reinforcement plan.

Include the Spouse or Significant Other

One of the ways you can reward staff for treating the customer right is to provide them with a pair of movie tickets to a local theater or concert of their choice. One nice thing about this approach is you get the spouse or significant other involved in the reinforcement process. They get to share in the reward, thus they will encourage their partner to continue to provide the kind of performance that earned him or her that award.

Designated Parking Space
Another excellent approach is to provide the employee of the week a parking space nearest the entrance of the building. Have a sign created and installed that identifies this designated parking spot. Typically, people in a company know who drives which car. When they see an employee’s vehicle in the designated parking space, they will know that person earned the customer service recognition award for that week.

By regularly rewarding the kind of customer service performance you want, you will raise your customer’s satisfaction level and their loyalty.
