    Purpose of Role

    The Plant Customer Service Role provides direction and support to the logistics team and ensures the accurate, efficient and timely handling of all inbound and outbound shipments. Interfaces with Hill's Pet Nutrition associates at all levels, external carriers and agencies, visitors, and others providing general assistance. Maintains a good working relationship with all internal and external customers, truck drivers, team members, etc. Provides effective and exceptional customer service.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Hours for this position are expected to be 2:00 pm to 12:30 am, Monday through Thursday; overtime as needed

    • Coordinates direction of carriers and is the front-line contact for all carriers, will call, customers, etc. will handle or direct all inquiries and communications at the Shipping window; Ensures the workflow of outbound and inbound activities in an efficient and timely manner.

    • Assigns workflow to associates and tracks productivity

    • Coordinates shipping board with in-and-out tasks

    • Ensures accuracy of Warehouse Management System reports

    • Works with Customer Service all issues pertaining to BOLs, pick lists, order changes, and other issues as necessary to ensure efficient and accurate fulfilment of customer orders

    • Schedules receipt of all inbound loads by appointment using the ship log

    • Finalize and print all bills of ladings and confirm shipment status per customer

    • At times be responsible for correct handling and/or coding of shortages

    • Completion of logs and various reports on a daily basis such as pick lists, BOLs, order labels, shipment status, pallet inquiry, inventory reports

    • Utilization of scanners to conduct inquiries and basic warehouse functions

    • Assists shipping transportation coordinators and other duties as required

    • Participate and adhere to all food safety requirements, Quality Management Processes, and site safety programs ensuring that all standards are met

    • Actively participate in continuous improvement projects through proactive and reactive efforts including incident/root cause investigation and implementation of corrective/preventive actions pertaining to Q&FS and continuous improvement of plant operations

    • Advises on loading issues keeping productivity and efficiency up

    • Advises on work schedule including the use of overtime

    • Provides the order in which trailers are loaded and must pay special attention to pick up and delivery times

    • In off hours, will decide on holding orders or shipping orders with product shortages

    • Demonstrate a quality culture in actions, words and spirit

    • All associates are responsible for the safety, quality and food safety in their work area

    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

    Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

    • Participate in problem solving groups as appropriate

    • Participate in vendor assurance activities

    • Train associates in operation of all areas and systems

    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal for accurate transfer of information to carriers and associates within other departments and outside vendors

    • Ability to plan work on a daily basis, work independently without supervision & be self- motivated in a team setting

    • Effective analytical and troubleshooting skills

    • Strong customer service skills

    • Have an excellent understanding of computer functions and programs such as Micro Soft Office, email and be able to type at 40+ words a minute

    • Ability to perform multiple tasks at one time with attention to detail

    • Ability to handle high volume and multi task while ensuring that scheduled deadlines are met

    • Must be capable of working at elevated heights and or confined space

    • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)

    • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 55 lbs.

    • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals

    • Knowledge of local, federal, and industry regulations with regards to: Food Safety (GMP, HACCP), Food Quality (Product and Process)

    • Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices and SPC

    • Forklift assignments require OSHA certification and getting on and off frequently

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older

    • High School Diploma or GED

    • Effective written & verbal communications skills and self-directed with organizational and time management skills

    • Computer proficiency is required

    • Ability to work overtime and tight schedules in high pressure situations

    • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

    • Successful completion of a substance screening and background check

    Preferred Quali?cations:

    • JD Edwards and and/or Warehouse Management System experience a plus

    • Associates degree or working towards

    Compensation and Benefits

    Salary Range $15.00 - $18.00 USD; plus $1.00 per hour shift differential

    Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location.

    Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all full-time employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

    • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 120 hours of vacation leave annually; pro-rated in first year of employment based on date of hire

    • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid holidays/floating holidays annually; pro-rated in first year of employment based on date of hire

    • Paid PTO/Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid PTO/sick leave on January 1st of each year; pro-rated in first year of employment based on date of hire

    • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
