  • The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is currently seeking a Research Program Assistant to help execute studies within a laboratory of clinical psychologists studying the development and treatment of chronic pain from a psychosocial perspective. This research includes studies that aim to better understand psychological factors that contribute to chronic pain and its treatment.

    This individual will collaborate effectively within the research team and in their dedicated efforts to helping diverse patients.

    For the interested candidate, mentorship will be provided for pursuing higher education. Opportunities for publications and presentation are possible for the motivated candidate.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • Recruit patients from clinical settings, including patients following major orthopedic injuries from an outpatient clinic.

    • Learn and administer a state-of-the art pain sensory testing battery to patients in a clinical setting.

    • Track patient enrollment, administer follow-up surveys, and contact patients with appointment reminders.

    • Collect, enter, and organize data in accordance with project guidelines, maintaining meticulous records.

    • Conduct patient interviews, utilizing appropriate questioning techniques and recording responses accurately.

    • Assist in preparation of data reports for IRB and funding agencies.

    • Proactively seek to identify and suggest improvements in workflow and operational efficiency.

    • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

    • Attend regular study team meetings.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent, with some college courses preferred.

    • Some related experience.

    • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, biology or a related scientific field.

    • Prior experience participating in scientific research studies.

    • Prior experience with data management software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, REDCap)

    Starting Salary Range: $15.25 - $32.00 HRLY ($36,524.80 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
