    GENERAL OVERVIEW:

    The Supervisor Shared Financial Services supervises a staff of both exempt and non-exempt personnel and is the content knowledge expert and key Finance liaison on corporate Finance and other company area initiatives involving any interaction with processes performed at the Shared Financial Services level. In addition, the Supervisor is accountable for the following: the reconciliation and recording of data to the financial statements regarding all transactions interfacing with the Shared Financial Services systems; ensuring compliance with state and federal laws in effect regarding Unclaimed Property Compliance, issuance of 1099s and surcharges assessed on certain individual or family coverage for members with Highmark coverage living in other states; providing clear direction and acting as primary contact to BAs and Technical staff for enhancements, upgrades, changes needed to existing Shared Financial Services systems; and ensuring that the department processes and procedures are clearly documented, have sound internal controls and that semi-annual updates of Business Continuity, Pandemic Plan and SOX documentation including narratives, flowcharts, control matrices, and other required schedules are completed/updated in a timely manner.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    3. Provide periodic updates no less than quarterly to direct reports as to their progress in meeting their annual goals utilizing standard performance management tools

    4. Work with internal customers who utilize our applications

    5. Understand customers' needs to complete their jobs effectively and help customers understand how the applications function.

    6. Interact with Business Analysts and our systems counterparts who support the technical component of our applications.

    7. Communicate with members of management in internal departments that are supported by Shared Financial Services as well as with management at the subsidiary and affiliate level who utilize our services.

    8. This position has duties of instructing, directing, and checking the work of others.

    9. These duties include, but are not limited to, delegation of assignments; guidance and training; coaching/mentoring; identifying, monitoring and documenting employee performance; conducting the interview/hiring process; and generally facilitating the attainment of department goals.

    10. Ensure established performance metrics are being met with continual monitoring of work being completed

    11. Supports financial procedures and systems/process functionality.

    12. Content knowledge expert of the various Financial systems supported by the Shared Financial Services Division Maintain a general knowledge of the key business functions of the companies and the insurance industry including the process flow of claims payment data from the various claims processing systems (including ITS and FEP Washington System) through the checkwriters and EDW with final recording in the G/L, as well as a general understanding of the billing practices and revenue streams used to fund the business.

    13. Develop knowledge of industry best practices for the business functions supported by the department.

    14. Ensure the integrity of the data in the financial statements.

    15. Ensure the proper posting of JEs during the month-end close process within the timelines established per the monthly closing calendar

    16. Ensure that reconciliations are completed accurately in a timely manner with no unreconciled variances

    17. Ensure proper management review of reconciliations

    18. Anticipating and solving issues and problems related to day-to-day production and/or project activities.

    19. Able to identify the severity and priority of issues, determine corporate-wide impacts, presenting solid and viable options to implement workable solutions.

    20. Maintain close working relationship with operations areas to ensure accuracy and completeness of data stored within our applications, understanding how the other areas in the organization utilize the data and continue to improve upon the efficiency of the applications.

    21. Identify team goals and areas of improvement to increase team productivity and efficiency.

    22. Eliminate redundancy and automate procedures within the various Shared Financial Services areas to the extent possible.

    23. Suggest system enhancements to the various finance systems that can facilitate an increase in controls and obtain efficiencies in the work being performed

    24. Create, implement and monitor improvements to team training and departmental procedures.

    25. Continually analyze ability to support various corporate sponsored alternative work arrangements

    26. Monitor internal control practices and ensure that the department processes and procedures are accurately documented and that adequate reviews are completed to ensure compliance with MAR internal control practices.

    27. Ensure timely updates to MAR documentation on a semi-annual basis

    28. Ensure desktop procedures are updated in a timely manner to accurately reflect procedures performed within each respective area.

    29. Ensure semi-annual Pandemic and Business Continuity Plans accurately reflect best means for quickly recovering functionality and data in the event of a disaster.

    30. Other duties as assigned or requested.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum

    • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree.

    • 4 or more years of professional exempt level experience in a corporate financial or public accounting environment

    • 2 or more years experience in a leadership role or in a position requiring oversight of staff

    • 5 or more years experience with common desktop tools such as: Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Access, Outlook Express, and Lotus Notes

    Preferred

    • Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

    • CPA or MBA

    • 3 or more years' experience working in a healthcare operations environment dealing with the processing of claims data

    • 2 or more years experience in a leadership role and/or a senior level position
